Your Personality Type and Rhetoric- Digital and Paper/Pencil

This three-day unit for hybrid or face-to-face classes will change your students’ writing forever. It will change yours, too! Help your students uncover how their personalities shape- and limit- their writing and its effectiveness.

Included in this 44-page unit are fillable and editable Word documents, as well as Google Slides and a Google Form for your LMS. The unit includes background information, materials and time needed, daily scripts, a paragraph rubric, CCSS, and options for extending the unit.

(Students must be face-to-face for Day 2. Other days can be adapted for online class and group work.)

Students take an online personality test and write about its results. Then they work in groups to examine their shared personality traits and present these in poster form to the class. The class analyzes the posters for trends. After reviewing the Appeals and connecting them to specific devices, students analyze their own writing and draw conclusions about their writing tendencies. Afterward, students will be able to shift their writing to appeal to a wider audience.

Plenty of higher order thinking and collaboration are the basis of this unit.

This knowledge is the best gift you can give your student writers! You will use it with every writing class you teach.

NOTE: This unit is best taught with a minimum one-time Internet access for the personality test.
